Our Story

Margolis Company is a commercial landscape company serving the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) metropolitan area as well as greater Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Margolis Company specializes in all aspects of landscape development including landscape site development and installation, landscape and irrigation design, innovative green roof installations, turf establishment, and storm water infiltration ponds.

At Margolis Company, we can design and install your corporate or industrial landscaping as well as expertly and competitively build from your existing designs prepared by others.

 

Our History

Incorporated in 1939, Margolis Company began as a retailer of green plants and produce. Over the decades, our passion for plants and plant related work led us to focus on landscaping services. Today, after almost 80 years in business we have developed into a commercial landscaping company offering a variety of services. We offer full service landscape design and installation and also sell and distribute green goods through our expanding wholesale division.

We strive to provide the highest quality landscaping services for our clients. We are committed to providing these services using superb products and sound practices, as well as honest business practices that foster lasting relationships. We artfully synthesize on-schedule discipline with excellent environmental stewardship in an effort to provide the best value possible to you, our customers.

In the almost 80 years we have been involved in many high profile projects. Our commitment to quality has helped make us an industry leader in landscape installation. Our company Leadership is directly involved in each of our ongoing projects on a daily basis. We take a proactive and thorough approach in helping you solve your landscape challenges by turning difficulties into solutions. At Margolis Company we embrace challenging and difficult projects.

The Crews

Margolis has assembled specific crews and equipment dedicated to tree planting, while other crews are devoted solely to shrubs and perennials. Our foremen and lead crew members are experienced and trained with an average of 12 years of combined landscape installation experience. Each crew is equipped with equipment specific to their area of specialization. Our employees are trained and informed regularly in workplace safety.

All of the Margolis crews are members of either the Local 563 Laborers Union or the Local 49 Operators Union.

 

Lighthouse

This northern Wisconsin retirement development was a welcomed addition to the city of Superior. Several courtyards and site amenities make this development a comfortable Senior Living facility.

Waverly Gardens

This unique Residential retirement village features a variety of theme gardens including a French Garden, a Formal English Garden, English Cottage Garden, and a Woodland Garden. The site also hosts a Formal Rose Garden, Walled Perennial Garden and a Pineteum. This award winning site also features several water features and a rooftop courtyard Green Roof.

Manitou Island Residence

The landscaping surrounding this stately home incorporates simple massing of traditional shrubs and perennials. Access to the site was restricted to a narrow bridge leading to the island.

Mendota Heights Residence

This project started with an outdated swimming pool and deteriorated exposed aggregate patio. The finished Asian influenced landscape incorporates a pond with twin waterfalls, a bluestone patio with a seating area, updated irrigation, landscape lighting, and an extensive perennial garden.

Great River Energy

Minnesota’s first LEED platinum site integrates a wide variety of green technology including 7 acres of prairie, large rain gardens, two green roofs, 4200 shrubs, two fruit tree orchards and an irrigation system that uses reclaimed water.

Target North

This project featured the challenge of new construction while the campus was open for business. Challenges included establishing a site with sandy soils during 100 degree heat.

Minnetonka Residence

This extensive Landscape involved placing over 200 Large trees up to 7” caliper shade trees and 20’ conifers as well as hundreds of shrubs and perennials. This site incorporates a large water feature with a 40 ton bridge, a top of the line tennis court, a unique swimming pool and over 60,000 flower bulbs. Access was a significant issue as well as timing of plantings around the installation of hard-scape.
